About:
My work explores the mystic themes of scripture, in the Old and New Testament as well as contemporary, and ancient practices within the ‘Catholic‘ Church (By which I mean the literary term, referring to the ‘whole’ Church). My practice seeks to enhance viewers understanding of the human story, and to dismantle existing preconceptions – or, at least to bring cultural modes into light and question their origin. It blends itself with the humanist/pagan ritual and tradition from the Vikings, through the lens of Scriptural reading of Faith, while also being influenced by Cy Twombly’s exegesis of Greek Mythology in paintings. I see the territories marked out to bear an exciting prospect for discovery about who we are as a people. My paintings are like the stories that were told round the fire by the old sage of the village. I take what is old off the street and breathe a new life into it with colour, and let it dance around the fire. It is like the offering on an altar. My paintings are offerings.
